Apples == good!

I am done predicting football games for this season.  Both the Cyclones and Bears broke my heart this weekend, so I will give them the silent treatment for at least a week.  Maybe it’s my fault for liking teams that are chronic disappointments, but I really thought they’d do better than this.  Anyway, enough sulking over football, and onto something cheerier.

Yesterday was a perfect fall day, sunny and in the upper 50’s, so we went to Northwoods Orchard just outside of Rochester.  It’s an 88 acre apple orchard, but also has a big pumpkin patch, corn mazes, and some animals (goats, rabbits, chickens, pigs) for the kids to pet.  It’s free except for the corn maze and any apples or pumpkins you buy.  We went out to the orchard and sampled some of the apples.  They were yummy enough that we ended up buying a bag.  Payton seemed to enjoy himself, and it made for a good afternoon of entertainment.  It also made me want to have an apple tree of my own, but that won’t happen until we get a bigger yard.  Anyway, here are some pictures from the orchard.

Cute pictures. We went to the local orchard yesterday, too. It's kinda sad, they've been operating since 1947, but this is the last year because they sold the land for development (a new subdivision). They're keeping the restaurant and bakery, but everything else (the orchard and hay-rides, petting zoo, pony rides, etc.) are going.

And a nit, if I may pick it (and totally geek out in the process). I see a lot of this "apples == good" stuff going on around on these new-fangled internets. I guess it's fun, because those of us who've done a little programming know we need to whip out the ol' "==" sign every once in a while. However, "==" is a test for equivalence, not the assertion of equivalence. I'd be ok with "=", even though assignment isn't strictly what you're after. The mathematical symbol of a three-barred equals would be ok, I think, but there's no programming equivalent of that. Really, you should describe an Apples class with a static member boolean attribute "good." But, then I'd lament the simplicity of the model, not accounting for worms, or ripeness, or such. I mean, really... why can't I ever be happy?

I think you're the only one who will spot the flaw in my syntax Dan, but I guess my audience does have quite a bit of programming background, so maybe not. Maybe I should have just went with "Apples are good!" but that's boring. It's not like I was going to compile or try to run my subject line.

And here I was, just being confused as to why the bang was after the value, instead of in frot of it. Shouldn't it be:
Apples == !bad
