The Neuros

I mentioned before that I’m not a big fan of the iPod, so when I was shopping for an MP3 player, I considered all the alternatives.  I also have a very large music collection, so I really wanted at least a 60GB player.  At the time I was shopping last summer, not many products were on the market in that size.  I settled on one, but found a bunch of bugs with it.  The company ended up giving me a full refund at least.  You can read my review on that product here

After a lot more research, I found a new second generation player called the Neuros II, Player_bl_01and couldn’t be happier.  I’ve had a few problems with it, but this company stands by their product.  Their support is truly second to none.  When I first got the player, the earbuds it came with buzzed when listening to music.  I sent them an email and they had another pair of earbuds in the mail that same day.  After about two months of use, I had some serious problems with my Neuros, and it was essentially dead.  No worries, Neuros Audio emailed me a UPS return label and cross-shipped a brand new unit to me that same day.  All has been well, except last week the AC adapter it came with went out on me.  I gave them a call and they immediately sent a new adapter out in the mail.  Neuros Audio is a small company, but they are really making a name for themselves with their customer service.  I never have to worry about being hung out to dry if I encounter problems with my Neuros.

The Neuros is bigger than an iPod, but that’s not an issue for me.  It’s still considerably smaller than carrying around my entire CD collection.  The Neuros also has a built-in FM transmitter, so I can listen to it in the car.  If you are looking for an MP3 player, consider this one.  It’s been good to me.

Crazy Weather

Well it was less than two weeks ago that we got twenty inches of snow here.  Today the last of it melted out of the yard, but we’re getting thunderstorms and tornado warnings today.  Someone threw the switch from winter to spring.

Fashionable Toilets

I ran across an article today about a new tankless toilet from Kohler Co.  I just love the picture of the model on it.  These little guys have a price tag of between $3000 and $4300 depending on what color you prefer.  The highest price is on the thunder grey model.  I would hope for that price, that they would do the work for you.  I can’t believe there is actually a market for a product like this.  Maybe you’ll need it after eating one of these.

Happy Easter

Now playing: Skillet - Savior

IMG_0533

Happy Easter from the Evans family!  Holly sure did a nice job of framing this picture by using the tripod and camera timer.  Payton’s already had his second Easter and he’s not even one yet.  We stayed in town this weekend and just had a fairly quiet weekend.  Most of the family is coming up next weekend for Payton’s birthday party, and I have commitments to the church choir here, so that’s why we didn’t go anywhere.

I installed some new mini blinds in the four bedrooms, and some vertical blinds in the kitchen this weekend.  All of those projects got done without incident.  I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out.

By the way, I’d like to know who’s reading my blog.  Don’t be afraid to leave comments!

You Want Fingers with That?

Maybe you heard about this one already, but a lady found a human finger in her Wendy’s chili.  You Want Fingers with That?  Be sure to watch the video footage on that page too.  I had heard bad things, years ago, about the meat Wendy’s uses in their chili, but not like this.  I think this one trumps the McDonalds chicken nugget that was a rooster head.  I’d also heard about a person finding a fingernail in their Hostess cherry pie.  This seems more like something from The Naked Gun.  Remember when the guy spit out a ring when he was eating his hot dog?  That’s classic comedy there.

The Weez

I just found out today that Weezer has a new album coming out on May 10.  On weezer.com they had a link to the first single off the album, but the site is having problems as I write this, so I can’t post the link here.  It’s called Beverly Hills.  I did listen to it earlier and it’s a pretty catchy tune.  I thought it sounded a little bit like a Cake song in the verse.  I’ll be getting that album the day it comes out.  I just really hope they put more than 30 minutes of music on the album.  Weezer is notorious for having albums with about ten, three minute songs.  I really enjoy their music, but I feel like they are cheating their fans when they make such short albums.

I got an email today from Ticketmaster and I saw that Weezer was going to be playing at First Avenue on May 3.  I don’t think I’ll go see them again though.  I’ve already seen them twice.  The first time was back in 1997 when they opened for No Doubt.  I thought that was a pretty good show.  The second time was a few years ago when they released the Green Album.  They played at the River Center in St. Paul.  That show left me unsatisfied.  They played quite a few songs, but it was only about a 70 minute set.  They didn’t do much to get the crowd involved, just played the songs and let the music do the work for them.  I think we were some of the oldest people in the crowd that night too.  Most of the audience was high schoolers, and it really made me feel old.  If they ever tour again with Tenacious D, I’d be more likely to go see them.

Spamity Callamity

Now playing: Alice In Chains - Don't Follow

If you’ve been watching TV at all in the past week, you’ve no doubt seen the new AOL commercial where they are in a cafeteria talking about protection from viruses and spam.  It was kind of funny the first time, but now that I’ve seen it at least fifty times, it’s quite annoying.  I am amused when the one guy shouts out “Spamity calamity” while dumping slop on the other guy’s ham sandwich.  However, I’d still rather change the channel when that commercial comes on.

For your amusement, I’m posting a picture of myself when I had delusions of rock stardom.  I figured that since I was in a band at the time, I’d grow my hair out.  Somehow, it just didn’t seem to work for me.  I didn’t give it enough time to grow past the awkward stage.  This picture was taken just moments before it was cut back to the ‘normal’ length.  Kahn_long_hairI think the scariest part of this, is that this picture was taken only two years ago.

I was searching the web a while back and noticed that Jason Pettit put the old Vicinity site back up on his new website.  Here’s the link.  Ah, it brings back so many memories.  Spamity calllllllamity!

Quick Post

Now playing: Foo Fighters - Times Like These (Acoustic )

I’m trying out BlogJet for this post.  It seems pretty user-friendly.  I really like that it auto-detects any music I happen to be playing.  There is an option to link the song and artist to the itunes music library, but since I am anti-Apple, and anti-iPod, I won’t be using that.  I’ll go into more detail on that at a later time.

I’m posting a picture that I took of Payton today.  He was pretty happy to be sitting in the big chair and had fun when I spun him around in it like a Sit ‘n Spin.  It’s hard to believe he’ll be one in under two weeks!

As a miscellaneous link, check out this band’s website.  Tracey*s Alibi is a Rochester-based band that is really quite good.  They started about the same time that Vicinity did, and have been working their way up.  They have a lot of original songs that are very radio-friendly.  I think they have a sound similar to Matchbox 20.  I hope they can make it big someday.

Hungry?

It was almost a year ago at this time that Bigshow ate 100 Peeps in an eight hour work day. It was rather anti-climactic because he really didn't have any problems doing it. This is the same man who chugged a 2 liter bottle of Mt. Dew in 20 seconds. These are pretty amazing accomplishments, but we came across a site that has feats that dwarf Bigshow's accomplishments.

The International Federation of Competitive Eating website is that site. Take some time and look at the records these folks hold. They are truly amazing. I think this guy's butter eating record is truly disgusting. Doesn't he look like one of the SNL Superfans? Here's another guy that looks like one of the Superfans at times. Some of the other eating records that are pretty nasty are for mayonnaise, and cow brains. I wouldn't want to be around these people the next day!

I hope you find this stuff amusing. I certainly did.

Back again

My back felt pretty good for most of the day today. It felt the worst right when I woke up, and again now that I'm winding down for the day. When I first hurt it, I thought I had pinched a nerve, but these syptoms seem like it's muscular. Having back problems as a result of shoveling snow is common, but I have to be different and have back problems from blowing snow. I don't get it.

Today Payton started repeating the sounds that we were making. We'd tell him to say "dada" and he would. He did the same with "nana," "mama," and "baba." He's understanding a lot of things when we talk to him, but he's not saying too much yet. It's still just "nana" for banana, and "dada" for me.

I hate snow

Well it's official, the National Weather Service recorded 19.8 inches of snow for us yesterday. I've never been so glad to own a snowblower. Unfortunately, this morning while using it, I did something pretty bad to my back. I think I pinched a nerve right in the center of it. It sent me to my knees it hurt so bad. Holly had to go out and finish the job for me. I hope this goes away fast because I've never had back pain like this before. I really hate snow.

My bracket isn't totally busted, but Kansas losing last night hurt me a bit. I only had them winning one more game, so the damage is manageable.

Let's give this a go

Well, I didn't think I'd ever have a blog, but for some reason, I decided to give it a go. Hopefully it will be something that I keep up with and update regularly, but I make no promises. I'm not wild about my current blog name (Kahn's Korner), so if you have any suggestions, please reply to this and let me know.

The Cyclones looked pretty good today in their NCAA tourney win over Minnesota. Let's see if they can hang with North Carolina on Sunday. I don't expect ISU to win, but it would be great if they can keep it close and make it exciting. I had the same thoughts earlier this year when they played Kansas in Lawrence, and that had a great result.

It snowed like mad today. I don't think I've ever seen so much snow come down in one day. It actually set a record in Rochester for the most snowfall in one day, 16.8 inches, and it's still coming down as I write this.
