I just found out today that Weezer has a new album coming out on May 10. On weezer.com they had a link to the first single off the album, but the site is having problems as I write this, so I can’t post the link here. It’s called Beverly Hills. I did listen to it earlier and it’s a pretty catchy tune. I thought it sounded a little bit like a Cake song in the verse. I’ll be getting that album the day it comes out. I just really hope they put more than 30 minutes of music on the album. Weezer is notorious for having albums with about ten, three minute songs. I really enjoy their music, but I feel like they are cheating their fans when they make such short albums.
I got an email today from Ticketmaster and I saw that Weezer was going to be playing at First Avenue on May 3. I don’t think I’ll go see them again though. I’ve already seen them twice. The first time was back in 1997 when they opened for No Doubt. I thought that was a pretty good show. The second time was a few years ago when they released the Green Album. They played at the River Center in St. Paul. That show left me unsatisfied. They played quite a few songs, but it was only about a 70 minute set. They didn’t do much to get the crowd involved, just played the songs and let the music do the work for them. I think we were some of the oldest people in the crowd that night too. Most of the audience was high schoolers, and it really made me feel old. If they ever tour again with Tenacious D, I’d be more likely to go see them.
