Quick Thoughts 3/27

  • I’m back from a fun weekend in Chi-town.  Toll roads really do annoy me, and I was really caught off-guard by how expensive they are now.  I think they have doubled the rates.  The three tolls I had to pay each direction were $1.00, $1.90, and $.80.  There never used to be anything on that route over $.95.  Also it annoyed me that they didn’t post the price anywhere except on the booth itself, so I didn’t have time to get my money in order.  The very first toll over the Wisconsin-Illinois border was under construction too, and it took over 20 minutes to get through it.  Very frustrating.
  • The Final Four is set, and has to be the most unlikely quartet of teams I’ve ever seen.  Apparently Tim McKenna knew what he was doing because he actually picked all four teams correctly in the Yahoo! pick ‘em pool.  I can’t find the exact number of participants in the Yahoo! pool, but there are over one million, and he was the only person to get all four teams correct.  Quite impressive, but I bet he’d be in last place with picks like that most years.
  • I saw a 60+ degree day in the forecast for this week!  I am so ready for warmer weather and doing stuff outside.  This winter did go by fast, but I’m usually ready for winter to be over by January 2.
  • No new lyrics today.  Any guesses for the previous ones though?

Yeah, they doubled the tolls unless you use IPASS. It's a nice little nudge for everyone who lives there to get one, but sucks for everyone else.

I heard somewhere else there were 3 million final four entrants and 4 people got the final four picks correct.

Sorry for the late mention (been super busy at work), but congrats on the new house and on passing the 1 year Kahn's Korner anniversary!

I was so pissed this one time I forgot my IPASS when going to my in-laws. The toll I go through is automated, so I had to come up with $1.40 in change. Who can guarantee $1.40 in change is lying around in their car? Well, I can, but it's still a pain digging it up. Anything over a buck needs to have a human being sitting there collecting the dough, in my opinion.

Congrats on the house, too. We're tentatively planning our annual MN trip for the first week in June, although we might not be taking the route through Rochester this year. I'll keep you apprised, maybe I can scope out your new place...

The IPASS is a great invention, and if I travelled through Illinois regularly, I'd buy one in an instant, but it doesn't make much sense for me to get one as an occasional visitor.

I will probably post some pics of the house pretty soon. We close this Friday at 4PM, so hopefully I'll get some pictures up this weekend.

Dan, I figured you'd know those lyrics.

Sorry, yeah, I know the lyrics, although I've never been a huge enough fan of VH to know why you'd think I would. (OK, the first album, yeah, pretty special). I myself was actually kind of surprised when I read them and the song just started playing in my head.
