Happy Joe's

I read today in the Post Bulletin’s blog that a Happy Joe’s is coming to Rochester before the end of the year, and I was really excited to hear that news.  I have always thought that a Happy Joe’s would do well in Rochester.  It had been an idea of mine to open one up here someday, but it takes considerable money to do that…money that I don’t have.  So, now I’ll just have to make sure they stick around here by giving them my business.

One thing they don't tell you about Chicago-style pizza before you move to the area is that the vast majority of it is god-awful. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a pizza place, but we usually just end up going with Pizza Hut or even Papa John's because they all suck. A Happy Joe's in the suburbs would make a killing.

I miss that place too. Delicious. Hopefully your new one will be complete with the window to watch the pizza maker which gave me hours of entertainment as a child.

...and don't forget the siren that goes off during your birthday party!

When I worked at Happy Joe's, my favorite thing to do was to run the siren. I would keep it on a lot longer than I was supposed to. Kids thought it was funny, but I think I annoyed the adults.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please. We have a very special birthday today at Happy Joe's, it's for _____ and he is ___. Please join me in singing him Happy Birthday!"

Happy Joe's is a great place with great memories for people who grew up in Iowa.
